I've been dabbling with some tequilla of late and my daughter in law had a bottle of this open and in the freezer. Pours like corn syrup and cristal clear. Muted nose but sweet. It's been aged in bourbon barrels but the color filtered out to clear. Can't help but wonder what else was filtered out. Not a lot of flavor but sweet. I can drink it but I like others better. My Daughter in law says it needs cinnamon and an orange slice. Here it comes now. Not a fan I can drink it but let me have the colored stuff
About this bottle
Released in 2015, this is Herradura's venture into clear yet aged tequilas. It is created by blending 25 month-old añejo tequila with their Selección Suprema extra añejo which is aged in ex-bourbon barrels. The color is then removed using a proprietary filtering system. A touch of agave nectar is added to the tequila.

A delicate, Cristalino Agave Spirit by Brown - Forman Disitillery in Lowland, Mexico. It is 2x distilled in pot stills & aged for 25 months in new American white oak barrels before filtration. It has an aromatic birth with hints of cooked agave, wood, vanilla, caramel, citrus, honey, dried fruits, toasted almonds & walnuts; while a complex & creamy life adds hints of dehydrated bananas & pears, coconut & charcoal; that led to a balanced death of medium length with a hint of agave nectar. August 2022
Definitely the best Cristalino I’ve had so far (I do love Herradura). Unlike Don Julio’s Clara this actually feels substantial. Not as bright and fruity as the Reposado. Just as sweet but not as syrupy as the Anejo. It follows Herradura’s fruity profile but it’s got a smoky depth to it. Like the rest of Herradura’s expressions it’ll come off a little astringent sometimes depending on your palate. Unfortunately not available in Ontario.
The nose leads with creamy vanilla blending into ripe banana, reminiscent of banana pudding, before floral agave notes. The palate is delightfully floral with a tinge of smoke behind a sweetness of more vanilla, cream and a hint of dried fruits. The finish is exceptionally smooth, as is anticipated from an XO crystallino, and despite the sweetness presented on the nose and in the palate this tequila lens a balanced, dry finish.
Very smooth sipping tequila, rather pleasant to drink. The only major downside is that it loses some of the richness and complexity of other unfiltered añejo tequilas. That said, it’s a good quality drink at a reasonable price. Not a strong aroma, but a scent of honeydew melon is present. On the palate there’s some honey, and a hint of melon and herbal flavors, along with notable agave. A bit sweet overall.
Tequila Ultra, is a commodity, that if you like tequila, you'd most definitely want to try someday. It's not overly expensive, and it'll give you a smooth taste in your mouth with an aged note in there. You see, this is an aged tequila, but it's crystal in color since it's filtered through a proprietary process that will provide a sweet and silky taste with just the right amount of bite in it.
