Kyrö Malt Rye Whisky

Review #309 Whiskey Tour of the World 2025 #13 Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Fruity with apple and citrus notes. Palate: Clove and oak. Finish: Medium length with medium heat. Splash: No new flavors are revealed. Overall: 6/10 - The nose on this is fantastic, but everything else about it is just simply there. Nothing else stands out.

Malted rye is supposed to be less spicy and gentler compared a regular rye whiskey, but this whiskey is pretty hot. With this one there is a lot of ethanol on the nose and taste is still pretty youthful with fresh grain and mild oak being the main flavors. Fun to try something different, but not the most well rounded whiskey.

Quite an odd one. Incredibly fragrant but not like other whiskeys. Some sweet apricot to it, with earthy tones. Taste is of a strong marmalade. Or like a sinus cleansing eucalyptus. Black pepper and some citrus tones. Spicy and refreshing. Definitely a different sort of experience.

Nose: Delicate piney wood smoke, spicy rye bread. Palate: Lovely sweet roasted pineapple and mango, honey on rye bread. The smoke brings a slightly meaty quality. It's like a Hawaiian pizza. Finish: Peppery spice, with a lighter tropical fruit finish. It's a bit like a chilli jam.

Nose is nice, not as harsh or alcoholy as some others, does smell a little bit like Christmas. Palette has some cherry and oak and leather that turns into a warm burn. Finish is smooth with a nice warming burn. Overall this is a nice rye I would try again.

Love Kyrö Malt Rye! Such a unique Rye taste when compared to North American ryes. Taste like rye bread with marmalade. I recommend a drop or two of water then wait a minute to let your dram breath. Really opens up from doing this! Well done, Kyrö!
