Nose is light smoke and leather. oily mouthfeel; palete is creamy, sweet, vanilla and slight vegetal note. Finish offers pepper with smoke returning. Overall, sweeter with less smoke than average mezcal offering. Makes a good intro to mezcal. Bottle art has changed (at least twice) during last 10 years, and I wonder if that corresponds to changes in the style. I just don't get many of the characteristics that older reviews have listed.

On the nose there are minerals, lime, earth, vanilla, greenery, stone fruit, smoke, wood and agave. Exceptionally smooth; rich, with flavors of char, lime, confectioner’s sugar, smoke, earth, and black pepper. At the finish quite dry with some spice and an ashy flavor. Overall rich, warm, full-flavored, and I’m guessing fairly accessible for someone new to mezcal.
A great option for introducing mezcal to someone. Sweet notes of vanilla bean, succulents, and dried grass. My bottle is from Maestro Santiago Matatlán and features an approachable smokiness. For the price in CAD, I'd grab a bottle for something entry level that's a refined expression via the copper pot usage but it lacks character for that same reason.
Los Siete Misterios Doba-Yej 2013 An intense agave spirit by Los Siete Misterios NOM-O153X crafted with Angustifolia Haw agave & a double distillation technique. It has an aromatic birth with notes of agave & vegetables; while a bold life led to a long death with notes of smoke.
My go-to value mezcal. The nose is pure burnt rubber and some of that translates to the palate. But the taste is much more nuanced with a delicious smoke and tobacco ash edge in the finish that really hits the spot.
Vanilla, caramel, banana, cinnamon on the nose. Palate is vegetal and slightly bitter, with a subtle cigar tobacco finish. A smooth sip and not too robust in any specific direction, about to try in a cocktail.
