Rating: 12/23 N: I get a bit of fake caramel, but it fits nicely with the fireworks, tobacco, spice and tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, orange, banana). It's a forceful nose, but not a bad one. There's perhaps a faint hint of chocolate. P: The mouthfeel is thinner than expected with more of a rubbery tobacco presence. The tropical fruits come out quickly, along with the tobacco. I do taste the alcohol a bit and it is just a tad harsh. It's strongly flavored and not terribly complex, but decently balanced and kind of tasty. The alcohol presence does become increasingly obvious and intrusive though. F: A waft of alcohol lingers on the finish, along with a bit of rubbery bitterness, smoke, and chocolate. It's a bit underwhelming, but far from awful. This seems like a great dark rum for mixing. I should probably pick up a bottle for that purpose. For just sipping, Blackwell is the better choice. I could kind of sip this though, so it's better than I'd recalled. The harshness is a bit much though and so is the aggressive punch from the smoke that drown out most of the fruit. I'm on the fence between 11 and 12, but I think I'll land on 12 because of the clear usefulness of Myer's as a mixer.

Excellent mixer, pairs great with lemon juice. I wouldn't sip this neat or on the rocks though as it's a bit overwhelming for that. I recommend adding a shot of this with half an ounce of lemon juice to 10 oz of ginger ale. Closest I'll get to sipping it is making a wine-strength grog with it which comes out quite good: Grog Recipe -1.5 oz of Myer's dark rum -1 flat spoonful of sugar If using fresh squeezed lemons: -2.5 oz water -Squeeze 1/4 lemon and leave the lemon wedge in for garnish If using bottled concentrate juice: -3 oz water -0.3 oz lemon juice -Sprinkle some cinnamon -Stir
Very average well dark rum suitable for anything that calls for dark rum or just generically rum. There is some degree of Jamaican rum funk to it but it's quite mild compared to more expensive and higher quality offerings. You probably could sip this but it's definitely more in the realm of a mixing rum. I feel like it being pretty average, fairly cheap, and having the quirk of it's funkiness warrants an above average but not exceptional score. I do find myself stocking it fairly regularly at my home bar.
Myers's has a deep brown, clear appearance, with alcohol legs, lined up like soldiers. Aroma is of rich black molasses, toffee, cane stalk, some menthol, raisin, and prune. Taste is of those elements, with a waxy note. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Myers's finishes in a slope, as if one were gliding down a hill, into the cane field, stopping at the shed. RJT
On the nose, caramel, brown sugar, cloves, and nutmeg – along with a moderate, overripe-banana-and-raisin funk. Rich mouthfeel. Flavours of vanilla, molasses, pepper, more cloves and nutmeg, and more funk. Medium-length finish, with some noticeable but very temporary heat. 3.00/5.00 – Good (neat)
I’ve given this one a fair chance...guess I just don’t like it, never will. It’s strong on molasses which I love but it also has a dusty, stale quality that I just dont like. I put a chug of this in my rum infinity bottle and it’s really dominating it still. Gonna have to add a LOT more rums!
