About this bottle

This is the third release from the Renegade Barrel Collection of cognacs aged with unconventional methods. Conceived by Ferrand Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel, the series is produced in honor of the master blender "renegades" that inspire him. For this one, Ferrand Premier Cru de Cognac Vintage 2011 undergoes a second maturation in ex-Plantation Jamaica HJC casks from rum that was initially produced in 1996 at Jamaica’s Long Pond Distillery. Since it technically can't be labeled as "cognac' because of this secondary maturation, the spirit is called an "eau-de-vie de vin". This limited edition is bottled at 96.4 proof and available in select markets as of February, 2022.

: Both the flavor of brandy and rum come through in this latest expression. The grape spirit holds court while the rum adds a warm, nutty and round mid-range note. The blend is lovely, and almost like a cocktail in itself. With a splash of simple syrup, some cocoa bitters and dilution, this would make for a great after dinner drink. Alexandre knows what he is doing and with yet another winner, he is sure to rack up another slew of awards from various spirits competitions with this one. Santé!

Aged One 3.5

Grape juice and incense nose. Dryer and more alcohol punch than No2. Grape jelly, berry compote, dried oak, alcohol spice. Water brings put a silky fruited butterscotch. A step down from the last release but a solid dram.
