White, lightly aged, blanco or silver rums, whatever you want to call them are not typically rums that I drink neat, but I do have a good number of them, so I figured I would run thru 8 of them and see which one emerges the winner (between Angostura, Privateer, Havana Club, Cana Brava, Barbancourt, Flor de Cana, Banks 5 Island & El Dorado). The winner of the eight white rums I tried, I found Privateer to be more than just a great cocktail rum, but a very solid rum to drink neat. I've had aged rums that were not as good as this one. The nose is heavy on the sugar, but still fruity and almost has a cotton candy smell to it. The palate is buttery with anise, burnt sugar and bananas. The finish is longer than the others on the list, still on the short side though, with grassy notes and a bit of burn. The privateer white rum is a fine spirit neat or in cocktails. It can hold its own against pretty much any other white rum under $30 and again, it's even better than some aged rums. Well worth the price. The final results: 1. Privateer 2. Havana Club 3. About this bottle
Privateer uses a combination of grade "A" molasses and real boiled brown sugar (simmered pressed cane juice) along with a proprietary yeast selected for this specific rum. It goes through a long fermentation process (six days) and is double-distilled. The first distillation is done in a pot-still and the second in a still with plates added, more than their amber rum. The distillate is transferred to stainless steel tanks for a couple of months. Soft water is added in stages throughout and at bottling, the rum is 80 proof. Unfiltered. No additives including sugar.

Pineapple, herbal grass, agave and vanilla aromas on the nose. Grassy notes very much like martinequ rhum. finished with lime and vanilla. A great white rum from the USA.
