Not being a connoisseur of tequila, I asked the barkeep what he recommended for a bourbon drinker. This was it and I was not disappointed. The base spirit is fairly foreign to me but French oak aging is not so I find this somewhat akin to cognac although sweeter and less burn. Intense nose of cotton candy and tropical fruit. There is a touch of smoke too. The body is quite thin and this goes down way too easy. I really like the nose. The taste is quite sweet with the cotton candy in the lead. There is a little of that tropical fruit in the background but precious little depth to the flavors. Finish leaves my mouth very dry and wanting water to chase. It's something different and I can drink it but will keep searching.
About this bottle
Riazul, founded in the late 1990s by Iñaki Orozco, is located in the highlands of Jalisco, where the agave achieves its most ripened and fruity character. This twice-distilled añejo is aged 2 years exclusively in French oak barrels, made from wood sourced from the Citeaux forests of Burgundy that are given a medium toast.

Gold in appearance. The nose is much different than the other tequilas I've tried in that there is a very prominent sweetness to it. Almost like a bannana scent. There's very faint agave and black pepper notes as well. That sweet scent blends nicely with agave when sipped. Medium mouthfeel and a medium finish with some slight heat. Definitely a good sipper.
First time I tried it, loved it. Very sweet and extremely smooth. You won’t make “that face” with this tequila, no way. If you like sweet tequila you will love this one. Sort of has a faint black licorice taste which I usually don’t like but not terrible here. Long slow after burn but not in a bad way. Warm all the way down to your belly.
Amazing tropical fruit aroma, definite pineapple. One of the best tequilas I've ever had. Real unique tropical flavor that's sweet without being cloying. I could sip this all night long. Excellent.
Beautiful aroma from the glass. Fruity and a bit of cinnamon and candy like. Taste is cinnamon and pepper. Slight fruits and sweetness. A nice sippn drink.
Rich and sweet, if you like that from your tequilas. I generally prefer brighter, more citrus-forward stuff, but this is still a tasty glass.
