NOSE Oak, toasted corn, yeasty, biscuity, minerality and some candy sweetness. It smells like a bakery, like fresh bread dough. Odd. PALATE Woody, orange candy, toasted grain, raw bread dough, caramel syrup, baking spice and a slight grassy note. Odd… so odd. That doughiness comes through here as well and I feel like a kid making bread with my parents again. FINISH Medium-short -> Bread dough, woodiness, cough medicine and grassy grain.
About this bottle
Square 6 High Rye Bourbon is the first bottled bourbon produced at the distillery located in the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in downtown Louisville, Ky. The name Square 6 refers to the original plot of land where Evan Williams built Kentucky’s first commercial distillery in 1783, which happens to share the same block on Louisville’s Whiskey Row where the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience first opened in 2013. This is the first product to launch from this facility, where one barrel per day is produced, under Artisanal Distiller Jodie Filiatreau. It is a high rye bourbon consisting of 52 percent corn, 35 percent rye and 13 percent malted barley, aged 5 years in new, charred American oak and bottled at 95 proof.

I sampled this at the Evan Williams Experience gift shop. Frankly, I'm surprised this is five years old. Comes across much younger with a hit of ethanol up front and hot for the proof. Very dry, virtually no finish. Flavors that are there do suggest the high rye content. Might have been a lot better if they had left it in the barrel a few more years?
One of my favorites. Justin Kurk bought it for me at his bachelor party and we had it all this weekend at his wedding. Fantastic mashbill of 52% corn 35% rye and 13% barley. This time the barley stuck out to me much more - smoothing things over and giving this a fantastic mouthfeel that fades into a slow caramel/rye peppercorn spice
Fantastic - bready and spicy! Justin Kurk bought me a bottle at his bachelor party because I loved it so much during the tasting!
Very smooth. Nose of buttery corn bread. Pallette of bread, sweet corn. Hard to pinpoint the rest. Pretty smooth
Nose: caramel, vanilla light grass Palette: grass or straw, pepper and spicy Finish: pepper and banana
