About this bottle

This whiskey is one of three releases in Traverse City Whiskey Co.'s "Finishing Series." Each of the three feature a TCWC different whiskey with a unique barrel finish up to 12 months. This Port Barrel Finish begins with a bourbon with a mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley aged 5 years. It is then finished for almost 12 months in 300L ruby port wine barrels. It's bottled at 100 proof. Each of the three whiskeys are available at TCWC's tasting rooms and online as of March 2023. (SRP $59.99)

At first I was going back and forth on this one in some aspects. I know its a good bottle, and I would certainly describe it on sweeter side. But it can be hard to grasp on specifc notes through the sweetness. It may take some time get through it to find some really great notes. But you can find some nuttiness, fig, and cherry. The Port does really add a lot, and its an easy sipper. An incredibly easy sipper. This does not taste like its 100 proof. At all. It has an average mouthfeel. The nose is a bit more interesting than the palate, but I dont want to take anything away from that. Its a delicious pour for what it offers If you want something easy and sweet to drink, I'd suggest this.

Port enlivens the nose with a bright grape character. The initial tasting denotes an enveloping bourbon flavor deeply infused with a dark, rich port essence. The overall effect is similar to a cocktail in terms of the flavor blend and balance. The finish is long, with some slight tannic, burnt sugar flavors at the finish.
