About this bottle

Gin de Mahón is a style of gin limited to the Spanish island of Menorca. Xoriguer, pronounced "sho-ri-gar" means "windmill" which the founder named for his family's windmill. Production of the gin includes a direct-fire copper pot still and juniper which "age" for 2 years near the harbour. The base of the gin is made from wine using parellada and xarel-lo grapes from the Penedès region known for its cava. Other production details and ingredients remain a closely guarded family secret. Xoriguer Gin de Mahón matures in American oak barrels before bottling. (41% ABV in the States, 38% elsewhere).

Straight up: The aromas are at first very juniper forward. But quickly floral notes and lemongrass kicked in. It is very pleasant and approachable with low level of alcohol choke. On palate it again started with juniper, followed by some grassy and citrus notes. The texture is more oily and richer than most gins. Mandarin orange surprisingly pops up during the finish with some pepper and citrus in the background. With fever tree tonic: Such a great combination. The fruity and slightly grassy flavours fuse perfectly with the tonic to give a pleasant and refreshing long drink. The overall sweetness increases which highlights the fruity flavours more. At the price point of USD40 per litre this is a great addition to any bar shelves.

1.4.22 Served: Neat Bottle Opened: Same Day Aroma: Crushed juniper berries. Citrus peels (mainly lemon, with light grapefruit/orange depth) a light earthiness. Flavor: Starts as citrus, mids as powdery and savory juniper berry. Finishes clean and bitter. Overall very much like a london dry gin with a cleaner start and more bitter finish.

Parte de un perfil London Dry pero tiene una personalidad muy única. La botella es muy bonita también y tiene un arito para llevarla del dedo a la peda.

Super Juniper forward and piney Gin. There is also a slight roundness with a very floral and vegetal finish. Great Gin and Tonic Gin

Delicious neat and with the Fever Tree Naturally Light. Juniper and ends a bit sweet with the juniper still hanging around.
