Cracked open 3 bottles from the collection for a post Christmas brandy flight. Today we're starting in Portugal and heading east to Spain and then ending in France. This particular spirit is the first Portuguese brandy I'll have tried, also called Aguardente. I note that the proof is low at 38% but it seems that this is typical of this type. Nose: Caramel, apple, raisin and bit of ethanol. Palate: Very sweet and fruity, smooth but not watery despite the low ABV. Apple, grape and baking spice. Finish: Dries up, oak and burnt sugar. For the price, it's a really solid brandy. Better than a few young cognacs that I've tried.
