Rating: 10/23 N: Some nice stewed agave brings in some vegetal and sweetness, and it's mixed with lime rinds. Some salinity as well and a hint of white pepper. For a budget tequila, this is honestly a very nice nose. P: This isn't bad, but it unfortunately doesn't live up to the nose. I do get some stewed agave oily vegetal flavor and sweetness. That oily fullness helps to counterbalance the thin minerality and hints of white pepper. Although there isn't much ethanol flavor, I do get some harshness abrading my tongue, which is unfortunate. There are no weird and funky earth flavors or anything like that in here. F: Lingering harshness for sure. Minerality and oiliness as well. Hints of vegetal flavor with some sweetness and maybe a faint touch of white pepper. Maybe very faint hints of tropical fruits long on the finish. - Conclusion - This seems like a pretty solid mixer, but it's not a great tequila overall. It might compare well with Kirkland's blanco tequila, but it's not doing much better than that. It's so unfortunate that the palate doesn't live up to the nose. This is OK, but I'm thinking that it's going to be a 10 or 11 because of the harshness. I did think a 12 at one point, but I don't anymore. I'm thinking a 10.
About this bottle
Familia Camarena Silver is a 100% blue agave tequila distilled by the Camarena family who have been planting and harvesting agave in the Jalisco Highlands (Los Altos) since 1860. The agave piñas or centers are hand harvested and typically weight more than 100 pounds. The piñas are slow roasted in traditional stone ovens for several days before the juices are fermented and distilled.

The nose is a bit sickly, and there's certainly some cough syrup on the palate. It's sweet and creamy but leaves with an oily finish. It's simplistic and a bit not the best sipper in my opinion. However, it's a very good mixer. The sweetness works very well in any drink with citrus; it's rather muted when mixed in but it's very balanced. A 2 as a sipper and a 3 as a mixer.
A sweeter tequila. Very oily body. Lack luster flavor and finish with light roughness. Holds up well in cocktails, especially with lots of citrus to cut down the sweetness. A relatively decent option for low tier, 100% blue agave tequila.
This tequila really shines as a mixer, makes a very respectable margarita or tequila sunrise. Just didn’t find it to have enough character or smoothness to stand on its own.
Very smooth and flavorful Tequila. Perfect for shots or on the rocks. No burn with a slight sweet taste afterwards.
