About this bottle

Produced in Tlacolula, Oaxaca, Mezcal Sacrificio Joven is made from the hearts or "piñas" of 8 to 10 year old espadín agave plants. The hearts of the agave are roasted for two days in mesquite and ocote pine wood-fire ovens. After the agave juice is harvested through traditional processes and fermented, it undergoes a double distillation - first through a steel still, and then through a copper still. The mezcal is then aged 30 days in stainless steel tanks before being bottled at 40% ABV.

An elegant, handcrafted Agave Spirit by distiller Manuel Benet & mezcalero Eric Hernandez for Destilería Sacrificio NOM-O158X in Tlacolula, Oaxaca, Mexico. It is made with Espadin that have aged for at least 10 years; that is roasted using mesquite & ocote pine; before being naturally fermented & double-distilled. The first distillation is in steel & while the second is in copper. It has an aromatic birth with notes of smoke, vegetals & fruits; while a crisp life adds notes of agave, citrus, mint & campfire; that leads to a balanced death of medium length with a hint of pepper. I find this mezcal to have a "fresh" taste. That would make sense because it's a "joven". Has a slightly smoky flavor and some sweetness up front. I enjoyed it just by itself and I've made mezcal margaritas with it too which turned out to be outstanding. Without spending a ton of money, you can have access to a really good-quality mezcal here.

Kind of our introduction to mezcal. Agave, a bit fruity and smokey, hint of spice in the finish.
