About this bottle

Tequila Gran Dovejo Blanco High Proof, as the name suggests, is the high proof (98 proof) version of the brand's blanco tequila. Located in the Los Altos (Highlands) of Jalisco, Gran Dovejo produces only single-estate tequilas. The agave plants are grown by a fifth-generation agave grower. The piñas, or hearts of agave, are harvested by hand and then roasted in clay ovens for 36 hours. The piñas are then shredded, the juices extracted and fermented and then double distilled in copper alembic stills. It is bottled immediately after distillation.

Rating: 17/23 I'm not sure how high this proof will be since anything above 40% is "high" for a tequila. N: Spicy, earthy, briny, with some salty mineral, and faint dusty paper florality. I get dijon mustard straight away. Behind it, there's some richness from the stewed agave and just some general earthiness with herbal elements. There's some green peppercorn in here too. It's a really enticing nose, but not more than a hair sweet, if that's what you're looking for. P: Fairly viscous and packing a bit of a punch. It's oily and spicy (black pepper) with a big mintiness. I'm guessing it's about 48% ABV. Getting past those initial flavors, there's some bits of other herbal bitterness and some caramelized agave blended in. The depth grows on subsequent sips. It's full and the balance is very nice, but I do wish that the flavors stood out from each other a bit more. There isn't as much brine as I expected, but I do get some, mixed with some green olive bitterness and a hint of minerality. Dashes of something tropical in the pineapple-mango-banana range and a dusty papery note at times. F: Still kind of with an oily bitterness, punchy spice, mint, and caramelized agave. Faint wafts of green peppercorn. - Conclusion - This is a great tequila. It would make an excellent mixer or a really good sipper. The fullness and execution of flavor are so much better than most tequilas I've tried. I think that this is at least a 16 and I may be looking as high as a 19. This beats Cabeza and seems very competitive with Fortaleza. Specifically, I think it's a bit better than Fortaleza Blanco and Fortaleza Blanco Still Strength, but not much better. That puts 16 and 19 out of the picture, so this is a 17 or 18. I think that Fortaleza Reposado is a little better than this - though, again, not by that much. Right now, I have to say that this is more in line with the quality of Fortaleza Blanco and Fortaleza Blanco Still Strength, so it's getting a 17. Thanks @ctbeck11 for the sample!

Crystal clear. Aromas of wet paper, cooked agave, mineral, salt, jalapeno, bell pepper, lime, cement. A vibrant blend of pyrazines and industrial materials. Unctuous and creamy on the palate, hinting at some aging in tank. There's whispers of banana, cacao, pineapple, blueberry, orange, and powdered sugar. All of which, is swiftly whisked away by a brutally austere, beautiful, and extremely dry finish of mineral salts, black pepper, and white pepper. This is a tequila for aficionados only. Though I encourage everyone to try it. It is an exceptional tequila without question. Just very dry. Personally, I adore it. But, this is a tough sell these days.

Hot damn! Delicious. Earthy nose with agave and fruity notes and a tiny bit of minerality. Butter explodes on the palate, followed with sweet agave and a hint of almonds. Finish is agave and almond. There’s no burn, but there’s definite heat present throughout. Easily worth the price and I highly recommend.
