Surprisingly, the scent of peat smoke is very reticent on the nose. Only a slight air of creosote is apparent after several inquiries. On the palate, sweet agave flavor leads the charge, followed by a touch of salinity. Only at the tail end of the flavor journey does a light smokiness come through, reminiscent of a cigar malt. The body is medium, and the finish is extra long. As the younger sibling in the Mundial Collection, this one is a bit shy, but will warm up to you quickly.
El Tesoro Mundial Collection: The Laphroaig Edition (2021 Release)
About this bottle
This is the premier release of the Mundial series, which explores the possibilities of tequila finished in various ex-spirits casks from around the globe. For this expression, Master Distiller Carlos Camarena worked closely with the Laphroaig distillery team to arrive at the final flavor profile, which was achieved by aging El Tesoro tequila for nine months in ex-bourbon barrels and then finishing the liquid for four months in Laphroaig 10-Year-Old casks. It is bottled at 40% ABV and available in limited quantities as of November, 2021.
