Review #21 - Brandy / Cognac #4 Nose - compared to the Metaxa 7 stars, it is heavier, darker, much richer, very pleasant, still very fruity and floral. Palate - prominent dried fruit notes, grapes, plums, and it is warm, heavy, rich, very oily, sweet and with honey. There is quite a bit of a spicy alcohol burn initially, which is a bit surprising, but it mellows out rather quick. Finish - medium, maybe on the shorter side and it is very pleasant...seemingly shorter than on the Metaxa 7 stars, which is surprising. Also, it has less of a dry oak on the finish compared to the latter, although it is still subtly there. It is very pleasant, but also very sweet. A rich, Brandy by Metaxa Distillery in Greece crafted with a blend of brandy & wine, featuring Savatiano, Black Corinth & Sultana grape varieties, plus Muscat wine from the islands of Samos, Lemnos, a secret blend of Mediterranean herb and floral extracts; aged in both medium & heavy toasted French Limousin oak barrels. It has an aromatic birth with notes of fruit, wood, flowers, herbs & spices; while a rich life adds notes of baked stone fruits & orange zest; that led to a balanced death of medium length with notes of vanilla, toffee & chocolate. A quite floral, winey nose, with a grape-forward perfume. Light in body, but rich in flavor, this is a liqueur unlike any other. The brandy character plays a supporting role, but the headliners are the botanicals which have a flowery sensibility. The wine comes into play about halfway through the tasting, adding a solid grape flavor to the affair. Finish is long with lingering flower garden notes leaving a curious ending. Unique and well worth using in a variety of cocktails.
Delicate aroma of almonds, dried fruits, zest, caramel and menthol. Bright taste of dried fruits, chocolate, caramel and mint. Long aftertaste with tones of dried fruits and caramel. Excellent balanced and drinkability.
Very sweet and floral with juicy fruits. The rose petals come through very well. Reminds me of Turkish delight.
Interesting product, like a spiced up brandy, with the dried fruit coming on very strongly.
